Where the beach meets the desert…
Several sandy, secluded and unspoilt beaches can be found within approximately 30 minutes drive from the house and inside one of Spain’s largest National Parks, the Cabo de Gata. The beaches are warm from May through to the end of October.
A range of water sports are available at the beach of Agua Amarga.
There is a tennis court in Nijar, and also at a nearby hotel that also offers horse-riding.
The spa of Sierra Alhamilla, with its healing hot springs, was first built by the Phoenicians in 300BC, and later used by the Romans when Spain was part of the Roman Empire. Various beauty treatments are available. It is about 45 minutes drive from the Finca.
Granada and the Alhambra are approximately 1 ½ hours scenic drive from Nijar through the Sierra Nevada mountains.
The Arizona style landscape of Almeria has been extensively used for filming over the years. There is a western style village called Tabernas which is located 20km away in the nearby mountains. Many cowboy films have been made here including the “Spaghetti Westerns” by the Italian director Sergio Leone.

The picturesque village of Nijar is 2km from the house; well known for its selection of local handicrafts.
There is a post office and bank. A range of small food shops sell fresh vegetables and basic groceries.
A well stocked supermarket (Mercadona) can be found about 20 minutes away between the villages of Campohermoso and San Isidro.
Almeria airport is 27km from the house.
The city of Almeria is 34km from Nijar and contains many shops and restaurants usually found in a large city.
Public transport is very limited and we recommend hiring a car at the airport.
